Estonian embassy, Riga, Latvia

Architectural firm United Architects of Riga were instructed by the Estonian government to design a new Embassy building in the centre of the UNESCO protected World Heritage Site of Riga’s old town. An existing building from the 1960’s was to be replaced by a modern, functional building which would fit well with the surrounding merchant’s houses dating back to Hanseatic times.

The chosen design comprised of a ventilated façade of natural stone panels between large glass windows. Gotland Grey Limestone was selected due to its high levels of frost resistance meaning that it would be able to withstand the harsh Baltic winters for decades to come.

The neutral grey colours of our Gotland Grey limestone allow it to blend in perfectly with its surroundings. The building’s cutting edge, modern design with its oblique angles complements the Hanseatic, Neoclassical and Art Nouveu designs for which Riga is world famous.
